Free Legal Help Programs
We offer free legal help to low-income qualified individuals and families with cases in Alameda County through several programs.
CLASP
Community Legal Assistance Saturday Program 15-minute phone consultation with an attorney in any area of law. When: First Saturday of the month, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Phone intake) How: Call (510) 485-9933 during intake hours. Consultations happen later that afternoon.
Bankruptcy
Understanding debt relief options, preparing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy petitions, and post-bankruptcy court support.
For low-income individuals in Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Del Norte, Humboldt, Marin, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, and Sonoma Counties.
Property Transfer
One-on-one phone consultations for homeowners on property assessment and tax questions, transfers to family or a revocable trust, probate, and Proposition 19. In partnership with the Alameda County Assessor’s Office and Alameda County Law Library.
Low-Income Landlord Clinic
Phone consultations and document preparation assistance with non-payment of rent cases. Assistance with negotiations on the Mandatory Settlement Conference Calendar at the Hayward Hall of Justice (Shriver Housing Program).
Family Law (English & Spanish)
One-time help from a volunteer attorney with understanding your rights and completing family law court paperwork. Also available in Spanish.
Family Law Day of Court
If you are scheduled on a self-represented litigant family law calendar at the Hayward Hall of Justice, on the day of your court hearing, volunteer attorneys and Court Self-Help staff help with court forms, spousal and child support calculations, drafting orders, and final judgment paperwork. In partnership with the Court and Self-Help Center.
Family Law Status Conference
If you are scheduled on the Self-Represented Litigant Status Conference calendar at the Hayward Hall of Justice, volunteer attorneys and Court Self-Help staff can explain the court process, help complete or fix your forms, and guide you toward judgment or trial scheduling. In partnership with the Court and Self-Help Center.
Shriver Custody Clinic
Free legal help during court hearings about custody or visitation on self-represented family law calendars at the Hayward Hall of Justice. Representation for both parents if neither has an attorney.
Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) Clinic
Survivors of domestic violence can get help with completing petitions and writing declarations. Call the Family Violence Law Center to schedule: (510) 208-3557
